Many families tell us that the pony cuddling sessions at Cortijo Los Lobos in Andalusia are one of the most memorable parts of their stay. Set in a peaceful mountain environment, these gentle sessions allow children to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy calm, unhurried time with our kind and patient ponies.
Pony cuddling focuses on quiet interaction, mindful presence, and building confidence at a child’s own pace. With soft grooming, gentle touch, and relaxed moments together, the experience encourages calm and emotional connection in a natural, pressure-free way. These family-friendly pony cuddling sessions in rural Málaga province are suitable for children of all ages and are offered exclusively to our holiday guests.
The welfare of our horses always comes first. Sessions may be shortened or ended if weather conditions are unsuitable, or if participants are unable to follow guidance around the horses, ensuring a calm and safe experience for everyone.
In addition to our pony cuddling sessions, we also offer gentle pony rides and guided trail rides for children, with the horse or pony carefully matched to each child’s age, experience, and confidence. All sessions take place in our peaceful mountain surroundings and are designed to be calm, enjoyable, and positive for both child and animal.
For every session, the welfare of the horses and the safety of the children come first. We therefore carefully assess conditions on the day - including the weather, the child’s behaviour, and their comfort level - and will always recommend what we feel is best for both the child and the horse. This may include choosing between a pony ride, a short trail ride, or a quieter ground-based experience.
Children can also take part in horse agility sessions, where they learn to lead, guide, and communicate with the horse through simple, confidence-building exercises. These sessions encourage patience, focus, and trust, helping children develop skills - both with the horse and within themselves - in a relaxed and supportive environment.
